Dogrian is the Result
When my friend Julie came to me and said she wanted artwork created from dog ribbons, I have to admit that it was probably one of the most difficult projects that I have ever tackled.
Julie had dogs that competed in dog shows and were extremely successful. Over the years, she had a huge collection of dog ribbons that were stored in a box in the closet. The ribbons represented a wonderful time in her life and she wanted to have artwork created to celebrate that time.
Since the ribbons we mostly very brightly colored, I was reminded of the artwork of Mondrian, which is large blocks of bright colors divided by black lines. Using this inspiration I proceeded to create little windows that showcased the different types of ribbons. By taking the ribbons apart, weaving and layering them, I was able to create different and patterns and textures to provide interest and also showcase these amazing awards.
Julie “loves the finished piece” that is approximately 4′ x 4′. It reminds her of her wonderful dogs and the people she met during that chapter of her life.
